"wir helfen" in Cologne
History
Since 1994, the readers of the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" have donated around 20 million euros for "wir helfen". A large part of the donations were accrued through the yearly alternating campaigns through which "wir helfen" wishes to draw attention in each case to the particular plight of children and young persons. Since 2001, "wir helfen" also exists as a project of Mitteldeutsche Zeitung in Halle.
1994 "Villa Kunterbunt" [Villa
Villekulla] - for mentally ill children; "das Haus der
Hoffnung" ["House of hope"] - for street children
(500,000 € donations).
1995 "Come back" - for young
prostitutes (540,000 €).
1996 "Chancen für
Körperbehinderte" ["Chances for physically
handicapped persons"] (400,000 €)
1997 "Endlich mal raus" ["Out
at last"] - holidays for children (430,000 €).
1998 "Früh fördern"
["Encourage early"] - chances for children with
development disorders (450,000 €).
1999 "Spielräume" ["room
to play"] - for youth centres (420,000 €)
2000 "Menschenskinder"
["children of humans"] - for the integration of immigrant
children (430,000 €).
2001 "Eine vergessene Minderheit"
["a forgotten minority"] - for children with learning
difficulties (830,000 €).
2002 "Traurige Helden" ["sad
heroes"] - for children of addicts (904,000 €).
2003 "Verletzte Seelen"
["injured souls"] - for abused children (900,000
€).
2004 "Gutes kommt zurück"
["what goes around comes around"] - for all previously
subsidized projects (1,300,000 €).
2005 "Besser verstehen"
["better understanding"] - for the integration of
immigrant children. (Sum donated 1,200.000 €).
2006: "von Anfang an" ["from the
beginning"]- for very young mothers in need and their babies
(850,000 €).
2007: "Weil Kinder starke Wurzeln
brauchen" [" Because children have to be
rooted"] - because these children have to find an answer to
the question "Where do I belong" (Spendensumme 1.500.000
€)
