The Cologne daily newspaper, Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, was published for the first time back in 1876 as a local equivalent of the supra-regional newspaper Kölnische Zeitung. Around the end of the Second World War, both newspapers had to cease publication. Only in October 1949, after the end of the requirement for daily newspapers to obtain a licence from the Allies, Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger appeared again. After a hard-fought competition, it developed until the end of the 1950s into the leading newspaper in the region. Since 1967, Alfred Neven DuMont has been the sole publisher of Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
Today, 130 editors and a widespread network of correspondents
ensure local and regional reporting and background information on
events from the whole world. The main edition of Kölner
Stadt-Anzeiger and its seven local editions contain some of the
most exacting journalism and are among the best endowed regional
newspapers in Germany.
