The Cologne division had previously run the operative business of the Cologne site and had simultaneously provided meta-level services for the whole group. The new structure now provides a clear separation. The M. DuMont Schauberg media group, as the holding company, is responsible for overall strategy, managing the subsidiaries and for controlling the group's finances. The Cologne division has since been transformed into an independent company and now operates under the name Verlag M. DuMont Schauberg Expedition der Kölnischen Zeitung GmbH & Co. KG. The corporate divisions in Halle, Frankfurt, Berlin/Hamburg and other affiliates are already independent operative units today.
