Hamburger Morgenpost

The Hamburger Morgenpost morning daily appeared for the first time on 16th September 1949. It was the first popular newspaper in newly democratic Germany.

Founded as a politically oriented, popular version of the long-standing SPD party journal "Hamburger Echo", the Hamburger Morgenpost was taken over by Gruner & Jahr in 1986. The tabloid format was introduced in the same year, and new contentual concepts became established in the fields of travel, automobiles, leisure and culture.

Apart from its topical counselling function, the most prominent feature of the Hamburger Morgenpost is its comprehensive sport section.
